Toto Wolff has doubts about the new Formula 1: his message to Domenicali
One of Formula 1’s current landmarks accepts future championship news, but with reservations.
Toto Wolff says yes to the new Formula 1 conceived by Stefano Domenicali, but the former Ferrari team principal also asks for caution in the changes. He does so via an interview for ‘Autosport,’ in which he openly asks that any changes not disrupt the current course of the race weekends.
“The goal is the same for everyone, to make sure that Formula 1 evolves and that its audience increases,” was Toto Wolff’s premise. “I think Domenicali will make good decisions, because he has data that will support his choices. However, I am perhaps a little more conservative, and I like qualifying and the Grand Prix. That I consider the only big race event of the weekend.”
“Having said that,” the Mercedes team principal added, “on the future we need everyone to have an open mind. Some of the Sprint Races have actually been fantastic. However, it would be important to change Formula 1 not with a baseball bat, but with a Stanley knife. That way you can work with it, but with greater precision. In Baku, for example, with two races the risk of accidents increases. And this could be a problem ahead of Miami, where we race the following week.”
