Jannik Sinner bluntly on rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz
However, the rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz may not experience a new chapter in Monte Carlo
The rivalry that has been inflaming the tennis world, that between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, may not experience a new chapter in Monte Carlo given the Murcian’s forfeit, but it was equally among the topics of discussion in the meeting between the South Tyrolean tennis player and the press on the eve of his debut match at the Principality’s Masters 1000.
The one between the Italian number 1 and the world number 2 is actually a very friendly rivalry, with the two continuing to exchange certificates of esteem. Sinner himself, speaking in Monte Carlo, said, “Already when we met for the first time, in a Challenger in Spain, I asked him about how he trained, because I understood that he had something more than others. And I am more and more impressed: he is very young but he has already won a Slam and was No. 1 ATP.” Sinner’s approach in his matches against Alcaraz is unique: “By now I have realized that I have to face him by always changing something in my game, even at the risk of making mistakes.”
The two young champions were major players in the two Masters 1000s that preceded the one in Monte Carlo, always in the semifinals: in Indian Wells the Spaniard won, while in Miami it was the San Candido native who prevailed.
