Daniil Medvedev is too much for Lorenzo Sonego
Daniil Medvedev is too much for Lorenzo Sonego
After the extraordinary comeback over Ugo Humbert, Lorenzo Sonego fails to repeat in the match valid for the round of 16 of the Montercarlo Masters 1000 against Daniil Medvedev. In fact, the Piedmontese tennis player surrendered to the Russian in two sets (3-6 2-6) in an hour and a half of play.
An immediately uphill start for the Italian, who breaks serve at the first useful opportunity for the Russian: Medvedev preserves the precious break advantage and closes the first set 6-3. In the second set the balance is still broken too early with the defending Miami champion breaking Sonego’s serve at 1-1, thanks to a bloody double fault by the Italian. Medvedev on serve was untouchable, while Sonego conceded a new break that allowed the Russian to sweep through and make the second set 6-2 his as well.
Sonego must thus say goodbye to Monte Carlo, while Medvedev will face Alexander Zverev in the round of 16.
