Tragedy in rallying: Hyundai driver Craig Breen, competing in the WRC, has died at the age of 33. According to British media reports, the Irish driver was the victim of an accident that occurred in a test in preparation for the Croatia Rally, scheduled for this weekend.
Breen ran off the road on a stretch from Stari Golubovac to Lobora: his Hyundai i20 N hit a pole, and there was nothing for the Irishman to do. Breen’s co-driver, James Fulton, reportedly suffered no serious injuries.
“Hyundai Motorsport is deeply saddened to confirm that driver Craig Breen lost his life today following an accident during testing ahead of the Croatia Rally. Co-driver James Fulton was uninjured in the accident, which occurred shortly after noon local time. Hyundai Motorsport expresses its deepest condolences to Craig’s family, friends and fans,” is Hyundai’s note. Breen in his WRC career captured eight total podiums while also racing for Peugeot and Citroen.
