Virtus Bologna, Sergio Scariolo takes stock of injuries
The words of Sergio Scariolo
Sergio Scariolo spoke after the last Euroleague game, won against Olimpia Milano: “This game did not count for the standings, but both teams played all the way to win. Milan played better in the first half, while we played better in the second, not forgetting the extraordinary game Hackett played. At halftime we adjusted some things. We are happy for winning for us and for the fans. Tonight everyone played with a different intensity than we saw against Napoli, while we continued to suffer when we played too individually and with too much haste.”
“I think in the Euroleague we had a more than acceptable season in relation to our roster and the many absences we had to make up for through injury. 14 games won in our first year is not a few. We also suffered from inexperience in playing this competition, particularly in the beginning where we lost some games a bit chicken. In the middle part of the season we were top six, too bad for the early and final part where, due to absences, we did not have a sufficiently competitive roster. I have no regrets, the playoffs were our dream, but on paper it was not the obvious goal to achieve. We struggled and tried as long as we could. My task is to improve the competitiveness of the team in synergy with the society. Today both we and they had so many players out so I would not take this match as an example for the future. We had 5 of the 12 players in the championship rotation out. The return of Teodosic and Pajola is close, perhaps as early as Sunday, while the others will have to wait a little longer. Let’s see what the medical staff says about Mannion, who had a flare-up of a hernia problem he’s been carrying around.”
