Rafael Nadal declares forfeit for Madrid: Rome and Roland Garros also in doubt
Still far from Rafael Nadal’s return. His presence for Rome and Roland Garros in doubt.
After skipping Monte Carlo and Barcelona, Rafael Nadal said through his social profiles that he will not take part in the Madrid Masters 1000, as he would not yet have recovered from the injury suffered during the Australian Open.
“As you know, I suffered a serious hamstring injury in Australia. The recovery period was supposed to be six to eight weeks, but we are already in the 14th week. The reality is that the situation is not what we expected. All medical indications have been followed, but the development has not been what was envisioned for us in the beginning, and we are in a difficult situation.
“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to be in Madrid either. The injury continues not to heal and I cannot work the way I need to in order to compete. A few days ago we decided to change course, have another treatment and see if things will get better. I can’t give any deadlines. This is the current situation.
“I want to send a special greeting to all the Madrid and Spanish public because I will miss the two tournaments played here at home. I just have to try to have the right attitude during all this time, try to give myself the opportunity to compete in some of the remaining tournaments of the clay-court season and I have no choice but to work and have the right mentality,” this was the message from the 22-time Slam champion.
