The words of Giacomo Devecchi

Interviewed by Giampiero Marras in the “Corriere dello Sport,” Giacomo Devecchi commented on the milestone of 800 games played in his career with the Dinamo’s jersey, seeking comparisons with the past: “The most apt comparison might be with Tonolli, who played 20 seasons with Virtus Roma. And if we talk about soccer, as a Milan player I think of Paolo Maldini, someone to whom I feel close. We certainly share a sense of belonging and the pride of being part of our own club.”

Among the various promotions and trophies won in biancoblu, Devecchi has no doubts about choosing the best: “The most surprising trophy was the Scudetto, something indescribable.”

Nicknamed the “Minister of Defense,” Jack then recalled which were the most beautiful duels he faced in his career: “Among the most beautiful duels were those with Alessandro Gentile in the semifinals of the playoff scudetto against Milan. The most difficult opponent I would say Langford with his immarcable step-back, but the one who amazed me was Deron Williams, former Utah and New Jersey, who went to Besiktas during the NBA lockout in 2011. I faced him in a friendly game and even tried to mark him all court but he seemed to walk around effortlessly, as if he was on the court.”

Devecchi closes by emphasizing the deep relationship he now has with Sassari and Sardinia: “At a camp I met a little boy who told me he became passionate about basketball after seeing us win the Scudetto. And then during the lockdown a lady in the center of Sassari told me: in this time of difficulty and sadness less fortunate there are you who give us energy.”
