Marcell Jacobs will return to running at home
The words of Marcell Jacobs
The stars of world multiple trials are about to return to the shores of Lake Garda: ideally “welcoming” them will be an Olympic champion of the 100 meters (and the 4×100 relay). It was presented at Palazzo Todeschini, town hall of Desenzano del Garda (Brescia), the GardaStars by 36th Multistars, the 36th edition of the most important Italian meeting of multiple trials, born in 1988 and Gold stage of the World Athletics Tour of decathlon and heptathlon: the event, 11 years after the last time and after having passed through Florence, Lana (Bolzano) and Grosseto, will return on Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30 (start of competitions at 10.00 for both days, free access to the stands) in Desenzano and at the Tre Stelle stadium, the historic setting of the Multistars. At the Tre Stelle stadium, Marcell Jacobs himself grew up, followed by coach Gianni Lombardi, historic deus ex machina of Multistars and president of the Club 10+7 organizer of the event: “Marcell was one of the young volunteers, he helped in the organization, brought sandwiches to the judges and staff and was available to the athletes.”
Now Marcell has moved to “the other side of the fence,” the side of world-class athletes, but he is always very close to the most important event in the area that saw him grow up: on the morning of Saturday, April 29, he will flank Mayor Guido Malinverno at the inauguration of the track and then, together with coach Paolo Camossi, he will be the protagonist of a demonstration of fast running and starting from the blocks with the boys of Athletics Jacobs Academy, the society founded this year and chaired by Viviana Masini, the champion’s mother. Mrs. Viviana was present at today’s vernissage and recalled the promotional initiative held between March and April at the Tre Stelle stadium: an athletics course for elementary and middle school children open to all clubs in the Brescian area and enhanced by the presence (thanks to the FIDAL Lombardy Regional Committee) of exceptional “demonstrators,” from multiple Italian champion and Italian multiple trials champion Sveva Gerevini to hurdler Elena Carraro.
“It is fantastic that an extraordinary event such as Gianni Lombardi’s Multistars is returning to the Stadio Tre Stelle in Desenzano – the thought Marcell Jacobs conveyed at the press conference – , which marked my adolescence and my growth as an athlete, and that my Academy is also seeing the light of day, a dream I have been nurturing for some time and which is coming true. All of this will translate into new tools and new facilities available to the younger generation and families. Sports is a fundamental aspect of educating kids and a way to help them achieve their dreams. And I am happy to support this initiative that is almost a rebirth.”
