Torino topples Lazio: second place back in the balance
A bitter home defeat, which also puts second place in the standings back in the balance.
Lazio knocked out at the capital’s Stadio Olimpico, where Torino won 1-0, generating a minor shakeup in the positions of those in Serie A who trail Napoli in the lead. In fact, the biancocelesti remain at 61 points, with Juventus (now -2) that could, however, overtake them in case of a success over Napoli in Sunday’s big match.
The start of the match for Lazio would even be promising, as after a few seconds Zaccagni came close to taking the lead with Milinkovic-Savic forced to save everything in extremis on the line. Then, however, the guests begin to take the field: Radonjic calls Provedel to a great save, then it is Vlasic who builds a good chance that he does not take advantage of. The biancocelesti show themselves only with a vague conclusion by Milinkovic-Savic, then in the 43rd minute they go under: to score is Ilic, who goes for a shot from the distance deceiving Provedel.
In the second half, one would expect a vehement reaction from Lazio, but it does not come: only after several minutes does Felipe Anderson timidly try, then a blast from Zaccagni makes the Olimpico scream but the ball ends up on the bottom. Then even Torino could double, but Provedel redeems himself on Radonijc. Luis Alberto, Milinkovic-Savic and Zaccagni tried again in the final but without seriously bothering the granata, who actually went close to the second goal again with Sanabria and Buongiorno making their victory even more deserved.
