Giovanna Epis comes close to the Italian marathon record

Giovanna Epis improves again as she comes close to the Italian record at the Hamburg Marathon. The Italian finished in 2h23:46, just two seconds behind the national record, 2h23:44 by Valeria Straneo in Rotterdam in 2012, after having already approached it last December with 2h23:54 in Valencia.

It was another majestic performance for the Venetian of the Carabinieri, yet another in a career that has always seen her rewrite the personal best in every marathon except the championship ones. Also in Germany, the 34-year-old who lives in Legnano, in the Milanese hinterland, is the protagonist of an excellent race traveling at a pace below the record until a few meters from the finish line, with a passage to the half of 1h11:21, and placed sixth.

She is now the only Italian to have gone under 2 hours 24 minutes on two occasions.
