F1, Mekies also leaves Ferrari: it’s official
The process of renewing Ferrari’s management cadre, confirmed by John Elkann a few weeks ago, continues. After Mattia Binotto’s farewell in December, one of his loyalists, current Cavallino sporting director Laurent Mekies, will also leave at the end of 2023.
The Rossa executive will become the new team principal of Alpha Tauri, and will take over from Franz Tost, who will leave at the end of the season. Mekies will thus return to his roots: for a decade he was an executive at the Faenza-based team, both with Minardi and Toro Rosso.
The French executive will say goodbye to Ferrari after five years: “First of all, I would like to pay tribute to Franz for the great work he has done in almost two decades of management at Faenza. I wish him all the best for the future and I know that both Peter Bayer and I will be able to count on his contribution and advice in the times to come. Looking to the future, I am honored to assume the role of Team Principal and to return to the Scuderia where I spent most of my career. Scuderia AlphaTauri has all the necessary ingredients for increasing success in the future, and together with Peter, I look forward to that.”
