F1, Max Verstappen: special message for Helmut Marko’s 80th birthday
Max Verstappen wishes happy birthday to Helmut Marko
It’s a special day at Red Bull: the Milton Keynes-based team’s advisor Helmut Marko turned 80 on Thursday: a special milestone for the deus ex machina of so many successes for the Anglo-Austrian team, who received a special message from two-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen, who is building a successful career with Red Bull.
“Happy 80th birthday, Helmut!” the Dutch champion wrote on his social channels, “a toast to many more special moments.”
Marko, born April 27, 1943, in Graz, boasts participation in two portions of the F1 season, in 1971 and 1972, also with BRM. His best result was eighth place at Monte Carlo in 1972 (at the time that position did not award championship points). His career interrupted that very year at the French GP, due to an accident for which he lost the functionality of his left eye. Remaining in the F1 environment, Marko would later become manager of Austrian drivers of the caliber of Gerhard Berger, before turning to consulting work for Red Bull since the entry of the Dieter Mateschitz-founded stable into F1 in 2005.
