Italy, Pozzecco speaks out on World Cup group draw

Italy coach Gianmarco Pozzecco said he was satisfied with the draw for the 2023 Basketball World Cup, which placed Italy in Group A with hosts the Philippines, the Dominican Republic and Angola.

The Azzurri coach is happy especially for the logistical aspect: “The draw satisfies us for logistical reasons because it allows us to stay in Manila for the duration of the competition but we do not want to underestimate our opponents, including the host Philippines and the Dominican Republic capable of eliminating World Vice-Champion Argentina from the World Cup race. The journey to Manila has already begun.”

“The World Cup will be another significant step for us on the path of growth and credibility, both as a national team and as the maturation of this generation of Italian players. It will also be a good opportunity to continue creating enthusiasm as we have done so far with a series of sold-outs at all our matches.”
