Sergio Perez beats Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc on the podium

Triumph in Baku for Sergio Perez, who also took advantage of a safety car in the early part of the race to claim his fifth Formula 1 victory.

Max Verstappen, overtaken by his teammate precisely because he pitted unlike his rivals before De Vries’ accident, tried to make a comeback but in the end had to settle for second place, with the point for the fastest lap being taken from him at the end by George Russell, who had pitted specifically to fit softs.

Behind, of note was the first podium finish of the season for Ferrari, with Charles Leclerc unable to do anything with the Red Bulls but at least held off a wild Fernando Alonso.

The Spaniard mocked Carlos Sainz’s other Red Bull but for the first time this season did not finish in the top three.
