F1, Toto Wolff unabashed about Red Bull’s superiority
F1, Toto Wolff categorical: “We have to improve as a team to catch up”
The Baku GP ended with the third one-two in four races by Red Bull. On the superiority demonstrated by the Milton Keynes-based team, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff spoke out in the post-race.
“The Red Bulls had about a twenty-second lead over Leclerc a little over two-thirds of the way through the race, so an advantage of half a second a lap. At least we saw their real pace, as both drivers were pushing. Five tenths is a very difficult gap to close,” said the Austrian team principal.
“We all have to work better as a team if we want to hope to catch up. Otherwise we change the regulations. However, I don’t think we should focus on the second scenario. We have to aim to win on merit, and that means we will have to try to be smarter and have a faster development program than Red Bull,” added Toto Wolff.
