F1 Ferrari, Helmut Marko taunts Charles Leclerc
Red Bull executive Helmut Marko commented sarcastically on Charles Leclerc’s new accident in Miami: “What have we learned? We’ve learned that you don’t have to come out of the pits behind Leclerc…,” he told Sky after qualifying that saw Max Verstappen finish ninth on the grid precisely because of the Monegasque’s mistake.
“Coming out earlier, we would have definitely placed him in the first two rows. But it’s a learning phase, we wanted to fully focus on the last run and get the most out of it. The later you come out, the better the track becomes, but in this case it was not the right decision.”
On Perez’s pole: “Miami is more or less a second home for him, since we speak as much Spanish as English. He has put everything together the best he can. He is showing this season that he has learned in all phases of the weekend. He can be more mature and focused, and in previous years he would always start half a second or a second behind Max. You cannot erase everything in the space of a couple of practice sessions, but now he starts closer to Max and for that reason he is often in front.”
