Giro d’Italia sprint victory for Matthews in Melfi

Michael Matthews won the third stage of the Giro d’Italia 2023, a 213-kilometer stage from Vasto to Melfi. The Australian cyclist beat Mads Pedersen in a sprint, taking his 40th career victory and tenth success in the grand tours (his third in the corsa rosa). Third place for Groves.

Remco Evenepoel had a quiet day, always stayed in the top positions to avoid risk and kept the pink jersey on his shoulders, even gaining some bonus seconds at the flying finish. The best of the day for the Italians was Albanese, fourth.

Tuesday’s fourth stage is scheduled, the 175-kilometer Venosa-Lake Laceno, with three second-category mountain grand prix.
