Evelina Christillin doesn’t hide about Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone
Evelina Christillin talks about the rivalry between Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone
The rivalry between Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone, but also the prospects of Italian skiing and winter sports in general three years after the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games: these are the topics discussed in the interview that Evelina Christillin granted to Sportal.it, on the sidelines of the “Il Foglio a San Siro” event held at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan.
“The rivalry between Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone? They are not within the Azzurri team,” explained Christillin, president of the organizing committee of the last Winter Olympics held in Italy, those of Turin 2006, “but I think a little healthy rivalry is good, as long as this does not result in difficult conditions as far as training or sharing time within the team is concerned, and I am not talking about race weekends but also withdrawals. However, I think both of them are smart and are making the team sense prevail, thus giving even more value to their victories.”
“Sofia Goggia deserves a great Olympic success in Italy as well,” Christillin added. “However, let’s not forget that in addition to her and Brignone, the women’s team has other great athletes, who should definitely not be underestimated.
In Milan-Cortina the Tricolor will not have to bet only on skiing: “Other great results can come – said the manager -, we have athletes in other disciplines such as Michela Moioli in skiing and Arianna Fontana in short track, in cross-country we can bet on Federico Pellegrino, a great athlete and also a friend.”
“That of 2026 will be a very beautiful edition of the Games,” he added, “which, among other things, returns to a European country and therefore will not force us to wake up at 3 a.m. to follow the competitions. I also like to mention the commitment of Andrea Varnier, a very dear friend of mine who has been entrusted with the task of heading the Organizing Committee: he is a person who works a lot and talks very little. A note? As a former skier I am sorry that the men’s and women’s ski races will not be held in the same place, but it is a very small problem, the rest is going very well and the organization is doing a great job.”
