Matteo Berrettini, Vincenzo Santopadre sees the glass half full

Matteo Berrettini’s coach, Vincenzo Santopadre, gave an interview to ‘Corriere dello Sport’ in which he talked about the condition of Matteo Berrettini, who also had to miss the Internazionali d’Italia due to an abdominal injury. “He is recovering from this injury, but some patience is needed. I am used to seeing the glass half full, Matteo will probably be one of the few players to go undefeated for two consecutive years at the Foro Italico,” he said, smiling.

“It is a blender of memories and emotions experienced. Despite many defeats and several matches that ended in cramps, they are all pleasant memories. This is a tournament that I always live with great happiness, and when I say that Rome is one of the most beautiful events in the world, it is normal for me to be a little biased,” he added about the Rome tournament.

Finally, he had his say on the new Masters 1000 format: “For those who go on in the previous tournament, it is definitely a good formula because the opener is on Friday or Saturday and you have more time for recovery. On other aspects, however, it can be more burdensome because those who lose in the first round get a two-week gap. Overall it is a good choice that lengthens the party, which never hurts such an important competition.”
