Diego Nargiso: “Jannik Sinner conditioned by an event.”

Former Italian tennis player Diego Nargiso analyzed in detail Jannik Sinner’s untimely exits in Rome and Roland Garros: “When Jannik focused on his work (technical and physical) at the beginning of the season, he reaped great results, playing at the level of the top-5, as he proved in the American 1000. In my opinion, what happened in Monte Carlo affected him a bit,” he told Oasport.

Nargiso referred to the defeat in the semifinals of the tournament in the Principality against Holger Rune: “There he had a great opportunity, he did not take it, and, aware of that too, he became overly focused on winning at all costs, but without understanding that this morbid attention has dangerous downsides. The defeats against Cerundolo and Altmaier, in my opinion, have this explanation because they are knockouts that for a player like him do not fit.”

Now comes grass: “That surface is a nasty beast, it really depends on the initial feeling. In my opinion, Sinner’s tennis suits grass because his powerful strokes become even more effective, as we saw last year at Wimbledon, so in my opinion he has a chance to go all the way in the tournaments he takes part in. Of course, it will also depend on the scoreboard and circumstances, as we know.”
