Roma, Champions more and more distant: only a draw against Salernitana

The first Monday post-match of Serie A’s 36th day ends 2-2 between Roma and Salernitana: goals by Candreva and Dia for the guests, El Shaarawy and Matic scored for the Giallorossi.

In the first half, the granata started off strong right away and in the 12th minute found the lead with a great goal by Candreva, who went over Rui Patricio with a nice touch on the volley. The Giallorossi tried to fight back with goals from Zalewski and El Shaarawy and in the final found the equalizer with Ibanez but the Var cancelled everything due to a hand touch by Belotti.

In the second half, however, the equalizer came immediately: in the 47th minute Ochoa repelled a beautiful free kick by Pellegrini and on the rebound was El Shaarawy who with the dish slipped the Campania goalkeeper. 7 minutes later the guests go ahead again: Piatek controls well in the area and serves Dia who with his heel beats Rui Patricio. Roma poured into the attack in search of an equalizer, and after chances happened to Belotti and Camara, in the 83rd minute Matic signed the 2-2 with a powerful right-footer from outside the box. In the final minute Cristante could even sign the overtake but his header was too weak.

Roma thus climbs to 60 points in the standings, -4 from fourth place, occupied by AC Milan. Campania remain in 15th place with 39 points.
