Domenico Criscito explains departure for Toronto and return to Genoa
Domenico Criscito has given an interview to the “Secolo XIX” in which he reveals some background on his decisions regarding his departure for Toronto and his umpteenth return to Genoa, the last one since he has just retired, and which are closely related to the coaches who have succeeded him on the Rossoblù bench, first Alexander Blessin and then Alberto Gilardino.
“I came back from Toronto with the idea of quitting: I didn’t like the way things were going there and with my family I decided to come back. I didn’t think I would get offers: besides Genoa there were two other teams but I didn’t consider them. When Blazquez called me we met for dinner and I immediately said yes. We didn’t talk about figures: I would have even played for free to bring Genoa back to A but it couldn’t be done, so I accepted the minimum wage. Everyone knows that I left because I did not fit into Blessin’s plans. He didn’t like me, because of his way of understanding soccer, and I accepted that, I could stay and mess around but it wouldn’t have been good for Genoa. With Gilardino’s arrival, evaluations also changed: with him I was part of the project again.”
