Giro d’Italia 2023: Alberto Dainese wins in Caorle, Thomas still in pink
Giro d’Italia 2023: Alberto Dainese wins in Caorle
The easiest stage of the Giro d’Italia, the 197-kilometer Pergine Valsugana-Caorle, had its foregone conclusion in a sprint and was won by 24-year-old DSM rider Alberto Dainese, last year’s triumphant rider in Reggio Emilia, who managed to contain the usual incredible comeback by Jonathan Milan.
The Bahrain Victorious rider never managed to find the ideal position to launch the sprint and once again failed to do the encore of San Salvo. Third was Australian BikeExchange rider Michael Matthews.
Britain’s Geraint Thomas retained the pink jersey. Tomorrow begins a decisive three days for the final success with the Oderzo-Val di Zoldo, 161 km with five mountain grand prix, including the uphill finish.
