Roland Garros: Zeppieri and Vavassori center the main draw

Italy makes it two for two on the penultimate day of qualifying at Roland Garros as Giulio Zeppieri and Andrea Vavassori gained access to the main draw of the Paris Slam.

Late in the morning, the Roman tennis player defeated Portugal’s Frederico Ferrerira Silva in two sets (6-4 6-1) after an hour and 24 minutes of play. Zeppieri played a virtually perfect game on serve, even nullifying the only three break points conceded during the match. In the first set what made the difference was the break he got in the fifth game, smoother the second partial where Giulio ran rampant, closing 6-1.

Later Andrea Vavassori took the court, defeating Chilean Alejandro Tabilo with a double 6-4 after an hour and 25 minutes of play. After an uphill start (0-3), the Piedmontese tennis player won 11 of the next 13 games, stringing together a mega 11-2 partial that allowed him to find himself on 6-4 5-1, launching him to victory and access to the main draw.

Zeppieri and Vavassori will find out their opponents in the main draw on Friday, once qualifying is over.
