Valentino Rossi: backstory on tenth missed world title
The Motosprint website published a curiosity, which smacks of a backstory, about Valentino Rossi: on the official Dorna website, the #Vale10 cover can still be traced, a photo with which MotoGP was ready to celebrate the Doctor’s tenth world title, which he never won.
It all goes back to 2015, when the pesarese of Tavullia and Jorge Lorenzo, teammates but bitter rivals at Yamaha, played for the world championship in the last Grand Prix of that year in Valencia, after the controversial contact between Vale and Marc Marquez in the previous race in Sepang, of which Rossi was found guilty and forced to start from the last position of the Valencia grid, failing then to go beyond fourth place, while Lorenzo won the race and title.
After that great opportunity missed amidst a thousand controversies and which never went down well with him, Valentino then continued his career until 2021, never reaching his tenth title, while Lorenzo raced for Yamaha until 2016, before declining to Ducati and Honda. Interestingly, however, that cover story about Rossi’s tenth iris, which has remained unused ever since, still appears on the Dorna website.
