Bayern, incredible shakeup on day of triumph: out go Kahn and Salihamidzic
It’s a heavy-hearted Saturday for Bayern Munich: on the day of its reversal with the resounding Bundesliga win at Borussia Dortmund’s expense, the Bavarian club announced the farewell of two of the club’s longtime executives, CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
Both have left the club effective immediately, Bayern Munich confirmed in a note. Kahn will be replaced immediately by Jan-Christian Dreesen.
These are Kahn’s controversial words, “A big congratulations and congratulations guys! I’ve been telling you guys all along! Always give everything until the end and never give up. I am incredibly proud of you and this achievement! I would love to celebrate with you, but unfortunately I cannot be with you today because the club has forbidden me to do so….”
Salihamidzic said goodbye with less venom: “I am proud to have been Bayern’s sporting manager for almost six years. I would like to thank all the players, the coaches, the whole team behind the team and the staff. It has been a good journey that I would have liked to continue, but I respect the board’s decision. Bayern is above it all and I wish unity and success to our team and our fans.”
