Roland Garros, it’s Jannik Sinner’s day
Jannik Sinner makes his debut Monday at Roland Garros 2023
After the disappointment of being eliminated in the round of 16 at the Roman Internationals at the hands of Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, Jannik Sinner returns to the court on one of the most prestigious stages in international tennis, the red clay of Roland Garros.
The South Tyrolean will close out the day on Monday, relative to the men’s draw, by facing ATP ranking number 101, France’s Alexandre Muller. The two have never faced each other on the professional circuit, Muller in particular coming from second-round eliminations in the Rome tournament (eliminated by Cameron Norrie) and the first round of the Lyon tournament (Jack Draper his executioner).
The expectations of Italian fans, however, will not only be aimed at the number 9 in the world rankings: also on the court on Monday will be Fabio Fognini (against Felix Auger-Aliassime), Flavio Cobolli (called to the impossible mission against Carlos Alcaraz, and Marco Cecchinato, who will contend the passage to the second round against Frenchman Luca van Assche.
Among the women, however, Martina Trevisan will face Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, while Elisabetta Cocciaretto will face Czech Petra Kvitova.
