Francesco Fortunato in nomination

There is again an Italian among the nominees in European Athletics’ poll for European Athlete of the Month. Deserving the nomination this time is Francesco Fortunato after his triumph in the 20-kilometer race at the European Walking Team Championships.

On the streets of Podebrady in the Czech Republic on May 21, the 28-year-old from the Yellow Flames took a splendid victory in 1h18:59 to take 44 seconds off his personal best, becoming the fourth Italian ever. A first place that dragged the Italian team to the gold medal in the team standings. With this success, the Apulian from Andria, coached in Tivoli by coach Riccardo Pisani, confirmed the favorable moment inaugurated at the international level by winning the Madrid 10 km at the end of April, where he fell to 38:56.

Also among the nominees for May are the other individual winner of the continental march event, Spain’s Alvaro Martin, who won the 35-kilometer event, as well as Slovenian discus medalist Kristjan Ceh and Norwegian decathlete Sander Skotheim.
