Gabi Garcia says goodbye to Lube

Waiting to announce the incoming hits, A.S. Volley Lube announces the third departure: after Daniele Sottile and Mattia Gottardo, it is the Puerto Rican opposite Gabi Garcia Fernandez to say goodbye to the white-and-red club, strong with the Scudetto won last season in his first year in Italy and with the regret of the encore blown in Game 5 of the 2022/23 Final in Trento.

A powerful attacker and winner of the 2021/22 SuperLega Credem Banca Service Leader Award based on weighted average, the athlete has established an excellent bond with the fans and has been appreciated for his grit on the court. Thanks to the change of sports nationality, Gabi Garcia from 2024 will wear the jersey of the U.S. selection in official matches and will treasure the experience at Lube.

“For a young man fresh out of school like me, to land in a club full of champions, in the most competitive tournament in the world, was wonderful,” said Gabi Garcia Fernandez. “I am grateful to a serious club like Lube for this great opportunity; not only did I try to learn from the best athletes, including Juantorena, Simon and Zaytsev, but with them I also won a Scudetto and grew as a man. This year, with a new group, the title slipped away at the last match, but the staff empowered me,the fans always supported me by accepting me and my family with affection. These are things you don’t forget. The most intense joy I felt on the night of the tricolor, but there are many other memories related to personal satisfactions, such as a series of performances in the Champions League and in the championship, parentheses in which I realized that I could have my say at these very high levels with dedication, courage, and desire to win.”
