Matteo Berrettini back on court, it will be derby immediately: message to fans
Matteo Berrettini will face Sonego in the first round of the Stuttgart ATP.
Exactly two months after his last official match (success against Cerundolo in Monte Carlo on April 12, before forfeiting the next day, skipping the round of 16 due to injury) Matteo Berrettini returns to the curcuito and will do so in the first major grass tournament of the season, the ATP 250 in Stuttgart of which he is the trophy holder, by the way.
Berrettini, in the first round scheduled for Monday, will face in a tricolor derby Lorenzo Sonego, just back from a positive experience at Roland Garros, where he picked up successes against the likes of Ben Shelton, Ugo Humbert and especially Andrey Rublev, current No. 7 in the rankings, before being eliminated by Karen Khachanov (after winning the first set and taking the second to tie-break) in the round of 16.
On his Instagram profile, Berrettini celebrated his return to the court with a message to the fans: “Back on grass and back on Tour,” he wrote, charging his fans ahead of the season on grass, always a favorite hunting ground for the Roman, who won in Stuttgart not only in 2022 but also in 2019.
