Bitter return to the court for Matteo Berrettini

It is bitter, to say the least, the return to the court after two months of absence from the circuit for Matteo Berrettini: in the tricolor derby of the first round of the ATP 250 in Stuttgart, a tournament that the Roman won in 2019 and 2022, it is Lorenzo Sonego who triumphs, with a 6-1, 6-2 final that leaves little room for interpretation.

Berrettini, at the end of the 71 minutes of play in which he showed the inevitable rusts of the long period of inactivity due to injury, headed for the locker room without hiding his tears, after congratulating the Piedmontese tennis player on his victory.

In addition to the two athletes involved in the derby, Lorenzo Musetti also took the court: for him a rather hard-fought qualification to the round of 16 against Borna Gojo, beaten 7-6(4), 6-3.
