Alberto Gilardino renews his contract with Genoa

Alberto Gilardino will remain Genoa’s coach in the upcoming Serie A season, thus making his debut as a coach in the top flight. The 2006 world champion with the national team coached by Marcello Lippi has signed a contract renewal until 2025. This is his message on the red and blue club’s social media: “Dear Genoans, I can’t wait to start again. See you very soon… Forza Genoa! Mister Gilardino.”

Alberto Gilardino, born in Biella on July 5, 1982, on the day of Italy-Brazil 3-2 in the Spanish Mundial, made his Serie A debut with Piacenza and then played with Verona, Parma, Milan, Fiorentina, Genoa, Bologna, Palermo, Empoli and Pescara, totaling 514 appearances and 188 goals and winning a Champions League, a European Super Cup and a World Club Championship with the Rossoneri. In the national team he put together 57 appearances and 19 goals winning the German World Cup 17 years ago.

Four years ago he began his coaching career, first at Rezzato in Serie D, then at Pro Vercelli in C, then at Siena, which he led from D to C, finally landing last December at Genoa, contributing to the Grifoni’s immediate return to the top flight.
