Claudio Ranieri will be honored for the beautiful gesture in Bari
“An example of valor, a gentleman in life and on the field.” The “Let’s Build Kindness in Sport” award is given to Claudio Ranieri, Cagliari coach, fresh from winning promotion to Serie A. His gesture addressed to his own fans of “cheering for” and not “cheering against,” inviting them to applaud their opponents, remains indelible. This is the motivation given by Ussi Toscana (Sports Journalists Group) and the Cor et Amor Association, together with the Tuscan Press Association, to value the Roman coach’s gesture of fair play and kindness.
The award, whose symbol is a jersey in children’s colors, recognizes the positive messages of sports. The jersey, which features Mandela’s phrase “Sport has the power to change the world” on the back, is an “investiture” of sorts as an ambassador to kindness in sports.
In the first 12 months of its existence, to receive the Let’s Build Kindness in Sport Award have been, in addition to Guglielmo Vicario, Empoli goalkeeper, the Milan Foundation, Stefano Pioli, Anna Astori (Davide’s mother), Federica Cappelletti, wife of Paolo Rossi, and Tennis Giotto of Arezzo for social projects and combating violence against women, Manuel Pasqual for soccer-related social projects, the 3D women’s soccer team from Brescia for hosting players from Ukraine, and little Nina from Bolzano, who organized a collection to buy back the basketballs that had been stolen.
