Lecco, it’s Serie B: Lepore scorer, 3-1 to Foggia
The home win is worth a return to Serie B after 50 years.
Lecco beat Foggia 3-1, and with the result at Rigamonti-Ceppi Stadium the Lombardi regain Serie B after a 50-year wait. The scorer of the Sunday afternoon that definitively closes the Serie C season is the experienced Franco Lepore, an almost 38-year-old Lecco man who knocked out the fellow Rossoneri with a brace.
The match had started as best it could not have for Foggia. In fact, the Satanelli took the lead after only 4 minutes thanks to Bjarkason, who was good at taking advantage of Leo’s throw and going into the net after a splendid finish at the first post. After two chances to double, however, Lepore himself signed the equalizer in the 34th minute by converting a penalty awarded for Ogunseye’s foul on Bianconi. Then in the final minutes of the second half came Lecco’s other two goals: scoring Lakti in the 78th minute at the end of a daring action and Lepore in the 88th minute on a counterattack.
For Lecco, next will be the first season in Serie B since 1972-’73. The Blucelesti in their history also boast three Serie A appearances, the last of which dates back to 1966-’67.
