The words of Pecco Bagnaia

Pecco Bagnaia spoke after his second place in the German Grand Prix: “A good race with a great duel. We did better than yesterday. From my point of view I gave it my all and tried to win, but it was not enough. In the penultimate lap I got close but I touched him and, at that point, I lost some ground. I had no way to recover in the last lap otherwise I would have risked too much. Now head to Assen.”

The reigning world champion continued in his story, “Obviously winning is a better feeling than a second place, but I can say that I tried until the end. Maybe even too much given the contact on the penultimate lap. A beautiful and hard-fought race. I’m really happy with what I did and that I found that extra something to stay close to Jorge Martin. The race was 20 seconds faster than in 2022. It explains a lot how hard we pushed. Now head to Assen where we arrive with a good feeling.”

Last line on his duel with Jorge Martin and a comparison with Enea Bastianini: “Today we challenged each other closely also because of a difference in setting. For that reason we often crossed lines. I tried to pass in Turn 5-6, but without succeeding, so I tried several times at Waterfall where you could take a major momentum, but he was good at covering? Differences with Enea? They are two great riders, at the same level. Bastianini was world champion in Moto2 just ahead of Martin, so it explains the potential very well.”
