Jannik Sinner tries to turn around: ‘On the happy field’

Jannik Sinner spoke before the start of the Halle tournament, where he will try to redeem himself after the last few complicated weeks: “The last few tournaments have not gone as I would like, but it doesn’t matter. I’m well placed in the Race to Turin, I’m in the top 10, and I’m not yet 22 years old. There is plenty of time. Here I don’t have any points to defend: I will go to the court happy, with a smile on my face,” are the words to Gazzetta dello Sport.

On his relationship with grass: “I don’t feel so confident right now on it. But I can build it every day in training or hopefully by winning matches. Let’s see how it goes. You have to adapt quickly to these conditions. Before Wimbledon last year, I had always lost on this surface. I came to the tournament with no expectations, then step by step I grew.”

“On grass above all you have to take advantage of opportunities and, if that doesn’t happen, move on immediately. The intention is to show up at the net more often. Also because, if you don’t, on grass you lose. My game allows me to be able to do that.”
