Pharaonic purchases were to be worth the 2030 World Cup on Arab soil

Lightning strike or maybe not. As reported by Marca, Saudi Arabia has withdrawn its bid for the 2030 World Cup. A surprising decision considering the many investments, in terms of international players, that Arab soccer is making. Everything suggested that the ultimate goal was the 2030 World Cup but that is not the case.

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud personally contacted Greece and Egypt to inform them that Saudi Arabia will not run to win the 2030 World Cup.

The reason? According to Saudi Arabia, it is not possible to challenge the bid of Spain, Portugal and Morocco, which are too far ahead in the project and too well structured in every respect. At present, with Saudi Arabia’s withdrawal, only the South American bid with Argentina, Utuguay, Chile and Paraguay remains in the running as opponents of the Spain-Portugal-Morocco trio. In September 2024 it will be known who will be the winner.
