Yet another day to remember for the Italian colors at the European Team Championships in Chorzow, Poland. After yesterday’s four victories, six more podiums arrived today, enhanced by the success in the 400 hurdles of Alessandro Sibilio, first across the line with a sumptuous 48.14, the third fastest time in Europe this year. Second places for Mattia Furlani in the long jump (7.97, wind -0.4 m/s), Ayomide Folorunso in the 400hs (54.79), Ottavia Cestonaro in the triple jump (14.09, v. -0.3 m/s) and for the men’s 4×100-meter relay (Lorenzo Patta, Samuele Ceccarelli, Marco Ricci – deployed in extermis in place of the injured Fausto Desalu – and Filippo Tortu, 38.47). Third place for Hassane Fofana in the 110hs (13.47, v. +0.4 m/s).

Italy dominates nalle team rankings: when only the third and final day, scheduled tomorrow, is missing, the Azzurri lead with 294 points, 35.5 more than hosts Poland (second with 258.5), and 37.5 more than Germany (third with 256.5). In the athletics medal table at the European Games, Italy leads with 10 medals (four gold, five silver and one bronze). Today gold for Sibilio, silver for Folorunso (400hs), Furlani (long) and the men’s 4×100 relay, bronze for Cestonaro (triple).
