Marcus Thuram says goodbye to Borussia, Inter Milan awaits him

“Once Borussia, always Borussia.” So wrote on his Instagram profile Marcus Thuram, French striker son of art (his father Lilian was world champion in ’98), waving goodbye to Moenchengladbach, with whom he has an expiring contract, before his signing for Inter Milan is made official, which is now just a step away after many had approached him to Milan.

“When I arrived four years ago, you may have known of me only by my last name,” Thuram writes, “But you welcomed me into your home, making me feel part of them. With your support match after match I grew, going beyond my expectations. You allowed me to push beyond the boundaries of my dreams, and you shared with me four wonderful years. You have allowed me to go beyond my expectations and cultivate my dreams. For all of this I thank you. We will meet again.”

Growing up footballingly in the ACBB Jugend, Marcus Thuram moved to Sochaux in 2012. In the summer of 2017 he moved to Guingamp and two years later left France to continue his career in Germany at Borussia M’gladbach. With the German club, Thuram collected 44 goals and 29 assists in 134 games; he later decided not to renew his contract until June 2023.
