Matteo Berrettini: training in London, but Wimbledon still hangs in the balance
The trip to London has arrived, but the signs are not positive.
Matteo Berrettini seems to want to do everything possible to participate in Wimbledon 2023, yet doubts about his presence in the London tournament are still all to be seen. The Roman has actually already traveled to the British capital and is trying to ramp up his training, but his recent physical problems seem far from over.
In fact, the very official Instagram account of the Wimbledon tournament showed Berrettini training in London on the grass. The footage, however, shows him hitting the ball three times, always with his forehand, with his movements still appearing stiff. And in the meantime, time is running out: the British Slam will in fact kick off as early as July 3, with the Roman excluded from the 32 seeded main draw.
Berrettini, who went all the way to the final at Wimbledon in 2021, is back from a new abdominal problem that has affected much of his season. An injury in the same area then forced him to withdraw at the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000. Recent decision not to take part in the Queen’s tournament specifically to focus on London’s most important summer event.
