Caroline Wozniacki announces return
After three years of stopping to be a mother, Caroline Wozniacki, former world No. 1, has decided to return to tennis. She announced it herself, with a tweet that also serves as the launch of a feature dedicated to her by Vogue.
“In these last three years away from the game I have been able to catch up with my family, I became a mom and now I have two beautiful children that I am so grateful for,” writes the Dane, who will turn 33 next July 11. “But I still have goals that I want to achieve. I want to show my children that you can pursue your dreams regardless of your age or role. We decided as a family that it’s time. I’m getting back into the game and I can’t wait.”
Wozniacki had the best time of her career in late 2017 and early 2018, when she won first the WTA Finals and then the Australian Open, returning to the top of the world rankings where she had previously settled between 2010 and 2012. In addition, she lost two finals at the U.S. Open in 2009 and 2014, but between 2008 and 2018 she won 28 other tournaments on the women’s major circuit. So another great champion returning to competitive play after retiring, like Belgium’s Kim Clijsters and others, hoping that she does not make the same splash as almost all those who came before her.
