Two other Italians have yet to know their fate.

Not just Matteo Berrettini and Lorenzo Sonego. Wimbledon Wednesday closes with two more Italians who have yet to finish their matches that put the second round up for grabs on London’s grass. They are Marco Cecchinato and Matteo Arnaldi, both of whom were forced to interrupt their matches due to darkness that now prevented the proper continuation of the contention.

At the time of the interruption, Cecchinato was one set ahead of Nicolas Jarry. However, the Chilean was far ahead in the second: he would bounce back from the 6-4, 1-4 split. More difficult was the task for Arnaldi, down a set in his confrontation with Roberto Carballes Baena. The Spaniard will resume contention on the strength of his 6-7(0), 6-3, 6-4, 3-2.

Novak Djokovic is the active tennis player with the most number of Wimbledon men’s singles tournaments won: seven, one less than Switzerland’s Roger Federer, who recently retired after a career full of accomplishments. The Serbian ace triumphed on London’s grass in the 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022 editions: in last year’s final he got the better of Nick Kyrgios, who forfeited and did not participate in the tournament in 2023, in four sets.
