Milan, Stefano Pioli dictates the line on the market: ‘It’s time for a change’

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli held a press conference at Milanello to present the new season. The coach from Emilia firstly commented on the latest changes decided by the ownership, starting with the farewell of Massara and Maldini.

“I would like to thank Maldini and Massara, if I am here it is also thanks to them. It has been a relationship of esteem. I have always felt at the center of the Milan project. I used to talk with Paolo and Ricky, now with Moncada and Furlani. I worked a lot in this month, even in the past I talked with players who could have come. So my work has not changed that much. Ours is a market of ideas.”

“Even before I used to say what we needed, I have always been involved in building the team. I have great respect for my players, but I think the time has come to make some changes, the goal is to be competitive in every competition and try to win something.”

Pioli does not feel less alone: “No, the fate of a coach depends on results. I have always taken responsibility and I will do it again. Zlatan will be missing, so the point is a goal. There could also be tactical innovations to have more advantages. Much will also depend on the characteristics of those who arrive. With players of quality and intelligence it will be possible to do new things.”

More on the market: “We look for players suited to our way of playing soccer. If they will be foreigners, it is because we consider them more suitable. We are talking about high-level players who will not need a long period of acclimatization.”

On Tonali’s farewell: “It is a serious loss from a technical point of view and it will be necessary to replace him worthily. Good situation for both sides for him, difficult to do something different….”
