Gerard Deulofeu renews with Udinese
Gerard Deulofeu has extended his contract with Udinese, which was due to expire next year, until June 30, 2026. This was announced by the Spanish fantasist himself in a joint press conference with general manager Franco Collavino and the newly appointed head of the Technical Area Federico Balzaretti.
The 29-year-old Catalan striker, who is about to begin his fourth season with the Friulian Bianconeri and who had played for AC Milan from January to June 2017, is back from a knee injury sustained in the away match in Naples that has been keeping him away from the field since mid-November. After the World Cup stoppage he had tried to return in a few scraps of matches, only to give up and undergo surgery, and according to what the player and managers disclosed today, he should be able to return to the group in the coming weeks.
“Deulofeu is an example and a great champion,” Balzaretti said, “and this renewal testifies to the ambition of this club. Udinese is a team made up of many young people who need a point of reference and a leader like him.”
“We saw last year that we are strong,” Deulofeu commented, “and we can do a good job taking important satisfactions. I feel great in Udine and I have been saying this to all the fans for a long time: it would be a dream to become a symbol for these colors. In this period I feel progressively better, I do not have a precise date for a return to the field, but it will be very soon. The boys need a leader and I have the goal of becoming one of the captains of this team.”
