It is now official: Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has signed a three-year contract with Al-Hilal. This was announced by the Saudi club on its Twitter account. The deal, which will expire in June 2026, was signed in Austria, where the player will join the pre-season training camp.
The 28-year-old Serbian midfielder has played the last eight seasons in a Lazio shirt, scoring 341 appearances and 69 goals and winning two Italian Super Cups in 2017 and 2019 and a Coppa Italia in 2019. Now the “sergeant,” as he was nicknamed by the Biancocelesti fans, joins the ranks of players attracted by princely Saudi signings.
In particular, Al-Hilal has already acquired Senegalese Kalidou Koulibaly and Portuguese Ruben Neves, while Al-Ittihad have signed Frenchmen Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kanté, and Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in January, where he was just joined by Croatian Marcelo Brozovic, while former Liverpool Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino signed with Al-Ahli. Finally, former Reds captain Steven Gerrard has become the coach of Al-Ettifaq.
Milinkovic-Savic greeted Lazio fans this way on social media, “Today is a special day for me, it’s hard to find the right words to say goodbye to you… It’s been 8 years since my arrival and I can never forget everything we experienced together. The Coppa Italia, the two Super Cups, and all the goals and assists. You supported me always and gave me the strength of a true SERGEANT. All this will never be forgotten and I will always carry it in my heart. Lazio and our people along with all the teammates I have found over the years has been a true Family. Here I learned so much and became the man I am today. Thanks also to coaches and all the staff who worked with us, and fans who with their passion helped us achieve results that seemed impossible. Last joy with Sergeant was the Champions qualification and I wish you all, many more great things. Forza Lazio! It will forever be my second home. Sergeant.”
