Boris Becker makes an appeal to Jannik Sinner
Jannik Sinner is set to face Novak Djokovic in his first career semifinal at Wimbledon. According to Boris Becker, the Azure has a few chances to beat one of tennis’ holy monsters on a court where he has proved unbeatable in recent years: “Sinner must have thought a lot about last year’s challenge against Djokovic, and I see that as a positive thing. He will be able to show how much he has learned and take that weight off his shoulders,” he told Sky.
For Becker, the real difference will be in mental attitude: “He has the qualities and the game to beat Djokovic, but whether he has the mental attitude, we will find out. He will have to play his best game without ever doubting victory and without losing confidence. I want to see more determination and clarity of thought. I think Sinner is improving, also Rune, but currently the player with the most improvement is Alcaraz.”
The Spaniard is unquestionably the best of the youngsters: “These I think are the three most talented players around, but Alcaraz is superior to Rune and Sinner have to get to that level. However, one should not put too much pressure on them. I think it’s unfair to compare this generation with Federer, Nadal, Djokovic.”
