Wimbledon, Carlos Alcaraz ready to “avenge” Jannik Sinner
Carlos Alcaraz is already thinking about how to deal with Novak Djokovic
Not even time to enjoy his victory in the semifinals against Daniil Medvedev that Carlos Alcaraz must already be thinking about the last, huge obstacle before he can conquer Wimbledon: in the final, the Murcian will find Novak Djokovic, executioner of Jannik Sinner in the first of the two semifinals on London’s grass.
“Everyone knows that he is Novak is a legend,” Alcaraz said on the sidelines of his success against the Russian, “it will be difficult to win but I want to fight, that’s how I am. This is not the time to be afraid because I got to the final at Wimbledon and I want to try to win. Even though I know he is almost unbeatable here.”
For Alcaraz, it will also be an important opportunity to “avenge” his near-peer Jannik Sinner in another generational challenge. ‘Carlitos’ has faced Djokovic twice on the ATP circuit, with an even record: in the semifinals of the Madrid Masters 1000 in 2022 it was the Spaniard himself who imposed himself by winning in a comeback in three sets, while at Roland Garros 2023, also in the semifinals, it was Djokovic who won three sets to one, also taking advantage of some physical problems of his opponent in the third and fourth frames.
It will therefore be the first time the two will face each other on grass: Djokovic chasing slam number 24, Alcaraz will try to spoil his party and end his Grand Slam aspirations, in turn winning another prestigious success after the one he won at Flushing Meadows in 2022. Played on Sunday, much more than a trophy is at stake.
