Wimbledon, prestigious victory in the final for Gabriele Vulpitta
There is an Italian champion in this edition of Wimbledon. Gabriele Vulpitta paired with Czech Jakub Filip won the doubles title at “The Junior Championships” at Wimbledon, which concluded on the lawns of the All England Club.
In the final, Vulpitta and Filip defeated 6-3 6-3, in just 58 minutes of play, Serbia’s Branko Djuric and France’s Arthur Gea, both 18-year-old sixth seeded favorites. The 17-year-old Roman thus became the third Italian to win junior doubles on the grass courts of Church Road after Bracciali (1996) and Matteo Trevisan (2007).
“It means a lot to me to be here, in perhaps the most important tournament in the world. It was a battle that I am happy to have won,” Vulpitta said.
For Vulpitta it was his second consecutive Slam doubles final after losing at Roland Garros paired with Lorenzo Sciahbasi.
