Ariel Filloy returns to Trieste

Ariel Filloy is a new player for Pallacanestro Trieste. The former national team player, who boasts a Scudetto, an Italian Cup, a Eurochallenge and a promotion to Serie A in his palmarès, arrives in Trieste after playing the last two seasons at the highest level with Derthona Basket. “Ariel is widely recognized as an elite player,” the words of Michael Arcieri, general manager of Pallacanestro Trieste, “a scorer of important shots, especially in the endgame, when the fate of the game is uncertain. In short, he is a winner. His ability to play both guard and point guard, being able to carry the ball with great confidence, is fundamental to our roster and style of play. His many years of experience in Italy and his quiet leadership will provide great confidence and stability to our group.”

Ariel Filloy, born March 11, 1987 in Cordoba, began his career at a very young age in Italy, playing first for Porto Torres and then for the Rimini Crabs. In 2008, he received the call from Olimpia Milano, with whom he stepped on the parquet of Serie A for the first time, then finished the season with Cremona. Later, after starting the season with Olimpia Milano, he moves on loan first to Scafati, in Legadue, and then to Pistoia. The 2011-2012 season saw him again playing in Olimpia Milano jersey, averaging 9 minutes per game.

In August 2012 Ariel arrives in Trieste, in Legadue, where he leaves his mark by scoring an average of more than 13 points per game, a performance that earns him a new call “upstairs,” with the colors of Reggio Emilia, with which he wins the Eurochallenge title. After Reggio it was again the turn of Pistoia, where he spent two seasons before settling at Reyer Venezia, with which he won the 2016-2017 Italian championship. After this season, he joins Sidigas Avellino, reaching the quarterfinals of the playoffs and the FIBA Europe Cup final, where the team is defeated by Reyer Venezia. Before arriving in Tortona, he plays one season in coach Repesa’s court in Pesaro, with which he plays a Coppa Italia final.

With the jersey of the Italian national team, Ariel Filloy made his debut in 2006 with the Under 20 team, then winning a bronze medal at the European Championships in his category the following year. After nearly a decade, he donned the Azzurri jersey again in 2017 for the Eurobasket 2017 qualifiers and finals. Later, he represented Italy in the qualifiers and final stage of the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
