Allianz Powervolley Milan: will be Belgian or Ukrainian opponent in Cev CUP

Directly qualified for the round of 16, Allianz Milano will have to wait for the winner of the match between Decospan VT MENEN (Belgium) and Epicentr – Podolyany HORODOK (Ukraine) to know its first Cev Cup 2024 opponent. This is the outcome of the ballot box after the draw took place live from the European Broadcasting Center in Luxembourg.

The 32nd finals (first round) are scheduled between October 24 and 26 for the first leg and October 31 and November 2 for the return leg. Coach Roberto Piazza’s team, which, as mentioned will enter the game from the next round (sixteenth finals) will have the two games between November 21 and 23 and the return between November 28 and 30. Dates and times of the first leg and return will be announced in the coming weeks depending on the availability of the playing facilities and the needs of the television schedule.

As for the opponents that came out of the urn, Belgium’s VT Menen team played last year’s Champions clash against Trento. There was basically no match despite the fact that there had been the absence of the newly-minted Kaziyski among the Trentines. Frenchman Capet, center fielder Van De Velde (Belgian national team), and former globetrotting setter Frank Depestele on the bench.

The Ukrainian team, on the other hand, has no recent history with the Italians. It has had several national teams on its roster for several seasons, starting with libero Denys Fomin and setter Vladyslav Didenko, and is coached by Poland’s Mariusz Sordyl. Recall that Italy is the holder of the Cev Cup trophy (second in importance in Europe after Champions) thanks to Modena’s victory in the last edition.
